If Alvy Singer and Annie Hall had ended up together at the end of "Annie Hall" and decided to become a more neurotic version of Nick and Nora Charles, the result would clearly be Manhattan Murder Mystery.

It's a joy to see Allen and Keaton together again, and even if this movie is not quite the equal of some of their 1970s collaborations, it is still a lot of fun to watch them navigate this pseudo-Hitchcockian scenario.

The tribute to Orson Welles' "Lady From Shanghai" at the end of the film is inspired.

This review of Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993) was written by on 13 Dec 2009.
