Review of Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993) by Ollie W — 17 Dec 2010
Very, very funny. Allen and Keaton have never been more perfect as the mismatched, bickering couple who may or may not have hit a rut in there long, steady relationship. As usual, Allan surrounds himself with a superb cast; Alda, Huston, Adler and Rifkin are reliably brilliant and provide the circle of convincing confidantes, distractions and accomplices that enables Allan and Keaton to work wonders within.
Despite it's dark subject matter (a presumed murder next door) this is Allen at his lightest, he trades his usual blackly comic, bitterness for more light, comical asides about relationships. Some say a reaction to the kind of complex, unpleasent attention he was getting from the media at the time, whatever the reason, it gave us this gem of an Allen comedy and thats definately something to cherish.
