Review of Manhattan (1979) by Ivan M — 03 May 2012
I was really impressed after watching this film, knowing that it doesn't recieve as much praise as his other work. However, I think it marks a time in his career where his combination of comedy with intelligent philosophy worked just the way it should.
A personal opinion of mine is that Annie Hall was clearly during a transitional period. It's still a fine film, but it seemed just a little bland and thrown together. Manhattan, however, I find to be a terrific film.
The stories and romances are nice and believable, the cinematography Allen uses to portray his beloved city is just wonderful, the acting is memorable and a bonus is the heart-warming feeling it leaves you with.
I am actually beginning to look at this as my favourite Woody Allen film, something I really look upon with great admiration.
