Review of Manhattan (1979) by David K — 12 Feb 2009
Just saw this again for the first time in almost thirty years. Just beautiful. The cinematography by Gordon Willis is breathtaking. wide screen, black and white. And the staging of the scenes is something to study.
most of the scenes are shot in extended masters. people framed in doorways, moving in and out of close-ups. performances can't be saved by editing. Really a beautiful work of art. Something to aspire to.
