Review of Manhattan (1979) by Derek K — 10 Nov 2008
It took me a while to let the movie settle in. I feel if this movie hadn't been made there would be no Noah Baumbach. This movie is such an obvious influence over Kicking and Screaming and The Squid and the Whale.
But back to this film. I went in with the wrong mindset, assholes really overrated it and it's been praised as one of the best comedies of all time. I really don't agree on the comedy. Annie Hall to me is far superior to this film, BUT this film has a lot of beauty to it, whether it be the writing, acting, cinematography(which is some of the absolute best I've ever seen), and soundtrack. When it comes down to it though, it's not as fun a movie to watch but I feel over time I'll warm up to it more.
