Review of Manhattan (1979) by Patryk C — 25 Jul 2012
While it remains one of Woody Allen's earliest classics, its truly an ode to the magnificent city of New York. In all of its romantic wit, the movie possesses the usual and subtle Allen style, with many truly intelligent humorous scenes and an enormous number of various references to literature and movies.
Manhattan shines in black and white. The romantic complication are the strength of this flick, because of their meaningfulness and modern outlook. Although more pessimistic and gloomy than Annie Hall, it shows Allen crafty hand and acting skills, too.
Great character development of a few of the most neurotic and cynical fictional personas in the history of movies. A bittersweet blend of comedy and seriousness.
