Review of Manhattan (1979) by Brian C — 27 Jul 2012
Woody Allen peaked here. This is the kind of romantic comedy I like; nothing sappy or condescending about it, and no forced happy endings; just mature, honest wit that makes you chuckle, but truly provokes thought, not just about the relationship being depicted, but the kind of relationships you have with people in general whether they're friends or lovers.
The fact that every shot is beautifully crafted (black and white has rarely been more stunning) only enhances the life-affirming qualities of the story.
