Review of Manhattan (1979) by Jennifer R — 27 Aug 2013
It's a classic film with a dispassionate screenplay. Mariel Hemingway's character is heartbreaking, her performance is sweet, tender, and award worthy. Woody Allen's character on the other hand is well developed, but very unlikable.
His neurosis and narcissism are unbearable. The film is set up and use of locations are romantic, but the story's deep selfishness loses and lacks heart. Not to mention that the story is also a little creepy.
.. a 42 year-old man who is dating a 17 year-old high school girl, and so on. (Apparently Woody Allen didn't even like the film himself. He asked for it not to be released and offered to make another film for free.
