Review of Manderlay (2005) by Tibor B — 20 Sep 2007
Diminishing returns in Von Triers follow up to Dogville. This tackles the topics of slavery / freedom / democracy and raises interesting points but has none of Dogville's suckerpunch emotional power.
Thankfully it's shorter, and maybe a little more accessible. Worth a watch if you liked Dogville's style, although it's a real shame Kidman and Caan didn't return as both Howard and Defoe struggle in their cucial roles.
