It is not easy to portray someone who is beaten by life. Casey Affleck did that and so did Michelle Williams. Her onscreen time was so limited but she delivered most heartbreaking conversation with Casey Affleck.
it is an incredibly sad story with a very good technique to tell the story well and efficiently. Using flashbacks to fill the audience in in order to put the pieces together to understand what could have happened to eventually beat a man down like this is clever and really gives you the impact.
This is my movie of the year.
