Review of Manchester by the Sea (2016) by Jackstraw57 — 14 Jan 2017
I'm a New Englander, and I get some of the pent up emotion in this movie and I felt the locale in my bones. I've had loss like this, and I've known guys like the Casey character, so this movie affected me deeply.
I watched it alone, and I cried often. I'm not entirely sure what it's saying, except that we all suffer loss and we do what we can do deal and often we don't handle t all that well. I'm not sure I saw redemption in this story except that the Casey character seemed to open up some at the end.
The very ending was unsatisfying. I wish I had seen more of his ex-wife.
