Review of Man with a Movie Camera (1929) by Will M — 05 Jan 2009
There's no denying the energy of this movie -- especially the final reel, which is breathtaking. Still, there are some disturbing suggestions lurking in its symbolism. It seems to me like a celebration of the powers of total surveillance and a declaration of the harmony of humankind and machine.
Perhaps it's just my poisoned western perspective, but I'm more inclined to fear the mechanization of humanity than to welcome it.
