Review of Man with a Movie Camera (1929) by Mark L — 28 Nov 2011
Experimental documentary about a day in the life of an unnamed Russian city, circa 1929. Watching something like this, still fresh and fascinating over 80 years later, I find it a bit sad that cinema didn't go down this route, and instead the cinema that Dziga Vertov was criticising with this film has come to completely dominate (and most non-fiction mirrors the structure of mainstream cinema as well).
A film that deserves more than 5 stars, should be watched by anyone and everyone with an interest in cinema.
