Saw this film with a modern orchestra soundtrack, which brilliantly enhanced the film's feeling of life in a city. The film is engrossing to watch, as it goes about capturing the energy of a major city (primarily Odessa).

It's pure eye candy to watch, there's no particular theme, although I felt echos of the concepts of man interacting with machines, substituting as machines, and the modern interacting with tradition (pulling carts with horses, locomotives blazing across the world).

Its the sort of avande-garde I can really get into, and anyone who derives pleasure from the joy and power of creating moments from celluloid would love this. If you can find it, I saw the 2002 re-release, the soundtrack is done by The Cinematic Orchestra.
