Review of Man on Wire (2008) by Joey H — 25 Dec 2010
Absolutely amazing documentary about a man whose passion, idealism, and ego lead him to occupy a space in the air no other human on the planet could touch or ever can again. The film's recreation footage boasts an artistry usually absent in documentaries and the mesmerizing score fits the images beautifully.
As for the subject, well, Philippe Petit views his whole life as a performance, and I'm sure that off camera there were times where his ego must have made him very unpleasant to deal with. However, enthusiasm is infectious, and his search for beauty wherever it may be found makes breaking into a building to walk a tightrope seem like the most natural thing in the world.
