Review of Man of Tai Chi (2013) by Augustine S — 02 Nov 2013
What can I say, I watch'em so you don't have to. For all this movie has against it, it is actually not too bad and surprisingly, no smack your momma and do a double take-ingly, it might be to the credit of Neo.
If it was just a modern Kung Fu movie it's flaws would have sunken it into a laugh fest, not even a fest because wisely Keanu is not the star of this one. It however is not just a Kung Fu movie. Now don't get me wrong, if you don't enjoy tiger vs crane this is a pass but if you, like me, like your beards wiry and white, then you too can enjoy this wire act as it just barely transcends the genre.
Without spoiling it the main character finds himself with the displeasure of shinning bright enough to catch the eye of the devil. Tempted he gives himself over to the power inside him, instead of controlling it and although it first delivers fame and fortune soon it destroys everything he holds dear.
Tons of heart. A couple badly delivered Keanu lines and some first time winner and loser shots. Over all way better then it should be.
