Review of Man of Tai Chi (2013) by John Eric D — 02 Jun 2015
Before John Wick. There are these couple of Keanu action films which has been on the radar for some time. I would say, this film is his comeback film since The Matrix franchise. I thought it's pretty fun, it's not everybody's Cinderella story though.
But this is more like the protagonist has the drive for obsession as he was involved in that illegal underground fighting match to earn more money. More like an internet based fighting match. Keanu as the villain, I thought he's ok, not bad actually.
You can see some cheesy lines here and there, but overall a pretty good martial arts flick. It could have been better though, like the fighting scenes could be slicker and more fast paced with good editing.
But this is a low budget I get it. I can see Keanu's vision as a director. It shows how he loves to make more dark tone action films. Master vs. the main protagonist kinda stuff. He can make more a lot of these and I love it.
Keep em coming Keanu! 3/5.
