Review of Man of Steel (2013) by Christian M — 22 Jun 2016
A 3 year late review for Man of Steel. I had the pleasure of seeing this at the big screen 3 years ago and the reception of the movie since then has been predominately mixed but then again I expect nothing more considering the amount of nonsense and hassle Zack Snyder and DC movies get these days.
Man of Steel is an incredible movie, rich with a masterful score composed by Hans Zimmer who unfortunately has decided to hang up his cape where superhero movies are concerned but he's left us with 2 perfect scores in MoS and BvS respectively.
This is a darker and much more mature take on the Superman character - we're all used to the perfect Superman who does everything right and nothing wrong however here we have a version who's naive, brash, someone who's yet to become the true character leaving so much room for character development.
Visceral and gorgeous visual storytelling; something critics and audiences dislike because they prefer to be spoonfed, is it a crime for a superhero movie to want to become something more than the usual formula that's applied to all these superhero films? I think not, I think Man of Steel took a huge step in the right direction and it certainly payed off.
MoS was really the kickstarter, the catalyst for the DC Extended Universe and it sure did a mesmerising job at introducing us to this gritty yet beautiful world.
