Review of Man of Steel (2013) by Billy G — 09 Jun 2017
I enjoyed the movie quite a bit. I enjoyed the beginning when Clark was just trying eek out a normal life on the fringes of society, but even then, he could not escape who he was. One plot point that I found troublesome was that in every iteration of Superman I have every seen, to enter the Fortress of Solitude, there has always been an elaborate security system to keep people out.
Yet in this movie it seemed any could whether the Arctic Conditions, knew exactly where it was and entered with absolute ease. Aside from that, the combat scene with Superman against the Kryptonians who had escaped the shadow zone was a good draw onto the film.
While Superman had spent about 30+ years familiarizing himself with his powers, hot to control them, keep out all the voices and take full advantage of the solar radiation from the Earth's WHITE, yet it is in fact WHITE, not yellow sun, Against genetically engineered and trained super soldiers.
It would have taken some time before they had full access to their powers, so their handicap played into Superman not really having any hand to hand combat experience. Using Kevin Costner allowing himself to swept in a tornado, when in reality, he had options, was interesting, but bordering on cheesy plot device.
The terraformers a nice plot device, that a sense of suspense, especially with the sound effect, It was during a relatively slow part of the movie and kicked things back up a few gears as the battle, tension and difficult decisions Superman would have to make.
Letter grade: B+.
