Review of Man of Steel (2013) by Raisa R — 17 Jul 2017

I usually agree with the critics 85% of the time. This is not one of them. Man of Steel is obviously flawed however it was enough to catch my attention and at some points got me emotional. The movie started off great showing how a father is willing to sacrifice everything to keep his son alive. And each every time, a flashback is shown of Clark as a youth, my eyes starts getting watery due to the life that Clark had to suffer through as an pariah.

The best part about the movie wasn't the acting though it was great, nor the story itself. It was the father-son relationship whether it was with Jor El or Johnathan. They both showed huge support and sacrifice for their beloved son. Jor El gave up his life to make sure that Clark can create a new species of Krypton and settle in a new area and meeting new people. John advised Clark that he has to be careful with his power and that he has to wait for the right time to expose who he really is. Even though they are not biologically related, John obviously showed that he loves Clark no matter what and he will always be a son to him and that one day he knew that Clark was going to accomplish something on Earth. John had a lot of faith in him knowing that he is the answer to everything. There is also one scene that truly is inspiring and really shows what a great father Johnathan is.

The movie really reflected mostly on Clark's identity and trying to figure out answers. This was well maintained in the beginning however the movie started to move a bit slow in the middle of the movie but picked right back up again. I will say though there was a bit too much action especially at the end. I think Zack should of had tuned it down a bit and shouldn't had made it too complicated. The story was well written but it wasn't as strong as what we would see in the Batman trilogy especially since we got Nolan part of the movie. Another awe moment was the scores that were played in the movie. As always Hans Zimmer never disappoints and every time I heard a background song playing, I started getting the shakes. Also after all of the chaos was over with, they showed this one great scene with John and Clark playing in the yard with a cloak on and wow was I down right emotional.

Man of Steel is one of the best movies this year but not the best. I can't wait for the DVD to come out and I certainly can't wait to see Man of Steel 2.
