Review of Man of Steel (2013) by Brendan N — 06 Oct 2017
Action wise this is brilliant, story wise it's a mixed bag. The essential parts are there but it's hard to put a finger on it. It's a little too convient in places, characters always in the exact spot and the blatant refusal to keep Superman true to his origin is annoying.
Synder has a solid 5 star film and makes silly decisions along the way, the heart and soul of Superman is the up bringing by the Kents. The choice to have the Kents talk about concealing Clarks identity to the point of letting other kids die is ridiculous, we next suffer through a Tornado storm taking the life of Jonathan Kent, this happens while a super fast Clark Kent watches, that's just dumb.
I think Synder has some interesting vision and ideas but he can't direct quality performances, Shannon seems dialled back. The film has ambition and this is a good start to rebuilding Superman after the campy originals.
More story structure than Marvel films and a lot of winks to future films. 07-10-2017.
