Review of Man of Steel (2013) by Tatsuhito K — 15 Nov 2017
I've seen it 3 times now and finally I'm starting to enjoy the film (I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not...) Although I wouldn't say I liked the movie and it is not a film that I would gladly revisit over and over again, I certainly admire the efforts and the creative vision that director Zack Snyder put into this latest film adaptation of Superman.
Yes, there are many plot holes and yes, there are things in it that make absolutely no sense, and I'm less excited about the action set-pieces compared to the story (overly saturated cinematography combined with some spectacularly over-the-top visual effects isn't really my cup of tea.
Also, the romance between Superman and Lois doesn't work for me. I find it very stupid.) But, having said all that, I do like the origin story, I do like some of the performances (Cavill, Costner, and Crowe are terrific), and in the end I think this is a very interesting superhero film.
"Man of Steel" is bloated and may take itself too seriously, but it's not without moments and you can find some enjoyment in it.
