Review of Man of Steel (2013) by Lou A — 18 Nov 2017
Although some may find this to be too somber of a tone for this particular American icon, the writers of 'The Dark Knight' trilogy give us a vividly told and truly epic modernized origin-tale for the original costumed hero.
Snyder's exhilarating directing, imaginative special-effects, and a superb cast bring it to life splendidly. Cavill is easily the best man to wear the red cape since the great Christopher Reeve, and Michael Shannon's General Zod is one the greatest villains from any superhero film in recent memory.
Zod's motives make the adversary much more complex than the traditional goodguy vs. badguy narrative. Hans Zimmer also enhances everything with his breathtaking score. 'Man of Steel' is, for better or for worse, one of the most stand-out superhero origin stories ever made, with moving moments and top-notch action.
