Review of Man Bites Dog (1992) by Mel B — 01 Jan 2010
The "Clerks" of serial killer movies, if one would like to look at it in that regard. This is a bizarre movie that I feel everybody will walk away with a different feeling after watching. I, for one, didn't really care for the supposedly charismatic killer that was the center of the movie.
He kind of reminded me of that super dorky kid in school trying to be cool after watching too many Joe Pesci mobster movies. The movie had its charms, too. The satire was nicely interwoven into everything which created an interesting world that you believe could possibly happen.
It very much holds up a mirror to society, though a deliberately cracked one. The performances were pretty believable, as well. The head of the film crew, Remy, truly came off as frightened and disgusted by the acts he had to commit, where his crew seemed to truly revel in taking part.
Our main character, Ben, like or not, was shocking in how fast and efficiently who could switch from being terrifying to affable goof. That alone might make this movie worth it for some.
