Review of Mammuth (2010) by Daniel P — 29 May 2011
One of those bulky character roles [Depardieu is] getting really rather good at... Where de Kervern and Delepine's earlier work proved too dry to allow for tears, there's a new-found poignancy about "Mammuth", embodied in the star's reading of an essentially honest man finding it hard to get what he deserves - and new reasons to press forward besides.
Even the film stock, faded and grainy, strives to honour a history of manual labour - an entire way of life - vanishing before our very eyes.
