French, very french... GD in full decline settles into the role (literally), and there are some surreal scenes which could haunt delicate sensibilities for years to come (check out Miss Mings doll creations.
..). First half does seem distinct from the second, like 2 separate movies. Is it desperation or just the introduction to get the audience warmed up for the series of later somewhat warped vignettes?
