Review of Mamma Roma (1962) by Mike M — 17 Dec 2010
Anna Magnani gives a fantastic performance as a middle-aged prostitute trying set her life straight for herself and for her teenage son but her past comes back to haunt her with tragic consequences. It's one of Pasolini's earlier works and the film strongly reminds me of Italian neorealism with touches here and there of the Pasolini I know from "The Gospel According to St.
Matthew", etc. An all in all, pretty darn good film.
