Review of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018) by Christo A — 10 Aug 2018
Mamma Mia it was ABBAmazing! As a sequel, it's much better than the first film. The story has more depth, the characters have more emotional moments and the scenery is just spectacular. Storywise it's just another typical rom-com, nothing new except for the flashbacks.
The musical numbers add a lot of fun to the film which is to be expected from ABBA's back-catalog of hits. Most of the cast perform their songs relatively well, with the exception being Cher who naturally stole the show with her renditions of Fernando and Super Trouper.
Cher's inclusion in the film was a brilliant move even with the very little screen-time she got. The popularity of the films and the stage productions, plus Cher's decision to do an ABBA cover-album has proven that ABBA's music made a larger than life impact on the world and will remain popular for quite some time.
Just don't let Pierce Brosnan sing again.
