Review of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018) by Breanne L — 22 Jul 2018
It's a sweet little sugar coated confection of a movie. The plot is more substantial than the first and it does manage some nice emotional moments quite well, but do remember, this is Mamma Mia 2, not Shakespeare. Yeah, there's some continuity errors but if you were expecting script perfection you would not be going to see it. Lily James and the other younger Donettes do a nice job. Young Harry's performance of Waterloo is what they call in the common vernacular "adorbs" though they never really quite connect him with being punk beyond his outfit. Cher does a great job with Fernando and if you are a fan of hers you will be.
Basically, if you want a nice, easy movie where everybody makes the "right" decision in the end you could do worse. A lot of reviews say it does have some solid emotional impacts for mothers and daughters and widowers so, you know, be forewarned.
