Review of Mamma Mia! (2008) by Julian K — 13 Oct 2018
Mamma Mia: 8 out of 10: A daughter invites three men to her wedding to find out which one is her father. With Meryl Streep and a ton of Abba songs.
The Good: This is pure joy in movie form. I love Abba, I love Meryl Streep. I enjoy the other actors. I love the Greek islands. There is nothing wrong here... come with us. The world is a better place after watching this movie.
The Bad: By any actual definition this is an awful movie. The plot is the ultimate idiot plot that would be not out of place in a Three's Company episode. The direction is actually visibly bad in some scenes. The Greek chorus choreography is something out of East German synchronized swimming competition.
The Ugly: Pierce Bronson's singing. It is worse than you could ever imagine.
In Conclusion: This movie is a little like The Room. It is so bad on so many levels it simply transcends that and becomes good. Drunken karaoke with talented people making complete asses out of themselves to great pop songs is wonderfully entertaining.
