Review of Malena (2000) by Ahmed H — 21 Jan 2008
A visually perfect film. Lajos Koltai's Cinematography is simply breathtaking and when combined with Ennio Morricone's exuberant Score and Monica Bellucci makes the film what it is: a visual poem.
A perfect, and sometimes harsh, portray of a country's culture and people and one of its small towns in particular. Only then the story of a woman who was just 'too' beautiful. Tornatore's directing is wise and subtle.
Monica Bellucci probably proves for the first time that she has much more than just the looks.
