Review of Malena (2000) by Reetesh Y — 18 May 2009
Saw the movie with no subs on a TV Channel. At first it was hard to believe it was actually a movie, i.e with a young teenager and his fantasies with a grown women.. I thought it would just be a fantasy erotic movie, but inturn it turned out to be something quite meaningful and nice.
It showed what goes in the mind of a tennager is a clear cut (or should I say "uncut" ) manner, with a good dose of humour pored in. It also showed the trials and tribulations of a beautful woman during WWII.
You will enjoy whole of the movie as it is filled with "interesting bits" and it at the end it also leaves you thinking about society and the various complications it creates for people.
Overall good movie, the direction was really good, there is very less dialogue even then it manages to convey the message nicely. The whole setting and the way it is shown made me believe that it couldn't have been made in a better way or in any other country.
