Review of Maleficent (2014) by Lee D — 13 Dec 2014

I never really was a fan of the original sleeping beauty film but the character of Maleficent of was always cool to me and definitely an iconic villain. flash forward now to the Disney live action film Maleficent.

This is really a film that it is not just a simple remake of a classic tale but rather a completely new retelling of a classic story from a totally different perspective and I must say I enjoyed it thoroughly.

First of all I have to say that Angelina Jolie was (not surprisingly) the shining point of this film giving an awesome and well layered performance as the titular character who we come to know more deeply in this version of the classic story.

The story itself, in my opinion, is much more rich and really shows a more realistic take on how the events in this fairy tale would unfold. there's a great twist on the old fairy tale pitfall of "love at first sight" but I don't want to give it away so I'll simply leave it at that.

the other actors' performances range from okay to good, the visuals and effects are breathtaking and all in all I'd say this is one of the best remakes/reboots, or whatever you'd like to call it, that I've seen in a long time.

if you haven't seen it yet you should its worth a watch and probably even more so.
