Review of Maleficent (2014) by Jaret M — 18 Jan 2015
Another special-effects saturated, diet-story, retread from the Disney machine capitalizing on exploiting its own (already existing) property. There are some pretty visuals and Angelina Jolie, to her immense credit, gives a heartfelt and committed performance.
However, the soullessness of the film can not be covered up by this one strong element and since it pretty much REQUIRES that you have seen the original animated masterpiece, the film feels like nothing more than one big con desperately trying to convince you that its something more than a gap-filled, unnecessary mess.
