Review of Make It Happen (2008) by John M — 12 Dec 2008
I almost have a soft spot for these stupid, done-to-death dance movies... almost. Make It Happen meanders through the same old trite dance story, accompanied with bad acting and actually pretty unimpressive dance sequences.
The dancer in this one is Mary Elizabeth Winstead, you may recognize her from one of my favorites from last year, Death Proof. She goes to Chicago to try to get into a dance program, fails, and becomes an exotic dancer until she regains the confidence to try again and "make it happen.
" Actually, it's kind of a rip-off of Flashdance, if you made Jennifer Beals a grease monkey instead of a welder. The only real high point of this movie is that Mary Elizabeth Winstead is very cute, very sexy and very easy on the eyes.
Her love interest, played by Riley Smith, is a really bad actor and can muster up no chemistry at all between them. Even as just a dance movie, you can still find loads of movies with better dance moves than Make It Happen.
