Review of Major League (1989) by Mike L — 07 Aug 2009
89 was a good year for baseball movies, between this and Field of Dreams it does not get much better.
Major League is about an ex-stripper owner who inherits the team from her dead husband and finds a loop-hole that says if the team only draws 25%(?) attendance she can move the whole club to where ever she wants. So during spring training she invites a bunch of has-beens and nobodies to fill the roster. In true Hollywood fashion the group of has-beens becomes a good team whose sole purpose is to screw over the owner wife.
The final act has the loser-Indians fighting the mighty Yanks, with a playoff berth up for grabs.
Bob Uecker does the play-by-play for the Indians and has some very memorable one-liners.
