Review of Major Dundee (1965) by Haytham K — 23 Nov 2007
Another massacred Peckinpah film restored after his death. Who knows how good Peckinpah could have been if he had creative freedom or, at least, was around to oversee the editing of HIS work. 'Dundee' is a great war/western, in the shades of classical civil war films.
It is pre 'Wild Bunch' so Peckinpah's style is nowhere to be found, but the story, lead characters, and questions of morality make it an above average Peckinpah (violence is still accounted for, however, and nobody seems to film violence like ole Peck!).
