Review of Magnolia (1999) by Arieh D — 25 Feb 2012
Ambitious if not slightly indulgent, Magnolia weaves the lives of several people together in the space of one weird and rather long day. The cast is stellar with Julianne Moore, Tom Cruise and Jason Robards standing out. The films weaves scenes of love, depression and addiction into a complex portrait of life that more often than hit down on misplaced profundity than anything truly touching. Even with all it's qualities and flaws (it's too long), I challenge anyone to say that they really liked the bizarre ending or that it helped in any way with the films resolution.
