The film Magnolia. For 13 years it's been in my top 5 movies of all time. After not seeing it for several years, I bought the blu ray and watched it today. I wasn't crazy. The intense emotional story lines and unique character development is paralleled by the best acting I've ever seen in a film.
Director Paul Thomas Anderson's best work by far with an A list cast and gorgeous music score by Jon Brion and Aimee Mann. Over 3 hours of the best there is in Hollywood in my opinion. Tom Cruise, who won the Golden Globe for best supporting actor is brilliant, and sadly the last film Jason Robards ever acted in before his death.
Julianne Moore's performance is also chillingly real and intense. If you haven't seen this film, you need to!
