Review of Magnolia (1999) by Aaron G — 13 Nov 2012
Anderson's films have all been unique so it's no surprise that he is regarded as one of the best of his generation. With The Master hitting cinemas it made sense to revisit some of his work. Magnolia is perhaps the most challenging of Anderson's films.
It is long but it is still dense, this is one of the best examples of the multi-strand narratives of recent memory, this is far superior to the Oscar winning Crash. Tom Cruise is perhaps the stand out performance but there isn't an actor who is off their game here at all.
This is at various points, touching and bizarre but importantly it is memorable and is a film that people will keep coming back to.
