Review of Magnolia (1999) by Samuel H — 03 Feb 2014
The intro felt like a Quentin Tarantino film, the middle felt like "Requiem for a Dream", and the ending felt like "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs". While there were some great moments: the singing of "Wise Up", the long tracking shot, the music, and Tom Cruise's acting, the movie didn't go anywhere.
I understand: its about the emotion it portrays. But I must ask, what emotion is that? Boredom? Exhaustion? It just didn't work for me. Also, why is Tom Cruise's character is literally a dog? All he wants to do is hump something.
And he pants the entire time! This movie collapses due to its 3 hour length. Please spend your time doing something other than watching this movie.
