Epic film about many different stories in urban life: A dim-witted but appealing policeman self-conscious about the force, a doctor dealing with a dying man, a kid forced to be on a TV game show, etc. To relieve what happens would be unthinkable. Paul Thomas Anderson creates quite an emotionally exhausting experience, masterfully depicting a long line of characters with compelling and searing performances by its actors; Tom Cruise is brilliant as a cocky and eccentric salesmen with outrageous insights on relationships in this hypnotic movie.
