Review of Magnolia (1999) by Clark B — 09 Nov 2010
Yes it is deteriorating and "self-destructing", as some critics say, as it progresses. It goes from an A++ to an A then to A- and finally stops at B+. But one can never deny the first half, or maybe the first two-third of Magnolia is one of the most gripping and spell-binding film-making.
It's such a ride, such a movie experience. Beautifully acted, flawed but deserves big big big applause for its writing and ambition. And Tom Cruise is goddamn brilliant.
