Review of Magic Mike (2012) by Rachel S — 27 Jan 2013
This film may surprise audiences. Yes, it's "the male stripper movie" but watching the film reveals it to be much more complex than that. This is actually a story of a guy who's pushing thirty but still stripping and how his mentoring a young kid into that world shows him how he wants to change his life.
Channing Tatum plays the lead role and does it quite well. The other members of the male revue troupe are attractive and well sculpted. Women will definitely enjoy this. The surprise comes that despite all the male flesh on display, this film still has a tinge of male sensibility.
The excess of cursing and the bit of female nudity in the very opening minutes of the film establish that. The performers and director impress but women should know that this isn't just geared toward them.
