Review of Magic in the Moonlight (2014) by Ken S — 30 Dec 2014
A solid effort from Woody Allen, who continues to prove that he is a fine filmmaker despite his old age and ever troubling personal life. Say what you will about the man behind the scenes, but his skill in his craft is still quite good.
Besides, if all art was judged by how the artist conducted himself in his life...not a lot of art would be liked. So Allen's latest film is about a magician and skeptic, who sets out to prove a young "psychic" is a phony, only to be stumped and fall for her powers, and possibly her as well.
It looks good, it is entertaining for the most part, and I enjoyed myself. I'm a fan of Allen's work, and while this isn't his finest effort, it is far from his worst.
