Review of Magic (1978) by Eric T — 26 Aug 2010
Based on the novel by William Goldman (who also wrote the screenplay) and directed by Richard Attenborough, Magic is a murderous character study of a schizophrenic ventriloquist who is slowly taken over by the personality of his X-rated dummy 'Fats'.
There are a few tedious moments, but the scenes in which Hopkin's character 'Corky' slips further into madness (and let's face it, no one does crazy better) more than make up for the filler.
Ann-Margaret, Burgess Meredith, David Ogden Stiers and Ed Lauter round out the cast.
