Review of Magic (1978) by Joel W — 27 Jul 2014
Maybe it was already done in Dead of Night, however that segment hardly explored the idea to the depth that Magic does. William Goldman not only expanded the idea but improved it, and improved the plot, while the more up to date acting by Anthony Hopkins and the rest made a vast improvement from the skeleton formed in 1945.
Magic fleshes out that skeleton, while making the gags run by Fats and Corkey legitimately funny. Magic makes madness beautiful in a way few films that have tried have been able to succeed in.
