Review of Maggie's Plan (2016) by Steve W — 11 Jun 2016
Despite its Grade A cast, Maggie's Plan comes off as a little underwhelming. But somehow, its a good thing. It never rears into over the top dramedy territory, with most of the laughs very subtle, such as Julianne Moore's scene stealing intellectual Georgette, who never blinks once when meeting the woman who took her husband.
When Maggie decides that her new love interest of 3 years neglects his children too much and relies on her to do everything, she enacts a plan to get him to fall back in love with his ex. Instead of zany hijinks and unrealistic set pieces, it goes for a very subdued and realistic portrayal, with Greta Gerwig being the most plain of the bunch.
Its Julianne Moore and Bill Hader who quietly take the movie, but overall its an interesting indie that is a little pretentious but very amusing.
