Review of Maggie's Plan (2016) by Red S — 28 Nov 2016
The ACCENTS! Julianne Moore is usually wonderful, here she absolutely butchers a "Danish"(?!!) accent. It lilts between Cape Town and urban Parisian. But, the the real killer is the borderline-offensive French Canadian band, one who feigns Korean and the other who opts for the "Pepe Le Pew" approach to how Quebecois sound - I love Greta Gerwig and the movie itself is fine, but the accents are so laughable it obliterates any illusion. It's too bad, for an otherwise good film that references art and anthropology so much - their team seems to know what they're talking about but really lost us with coaching/casting, here.
It's as though you used a dialect as regional as St. John's NFL and said "here, this is what New England sounds like.".
