Review of Maggie (2015) by Lance C — 04 Sep 2015
A zombie film that really isn't a Zombie. Take out the zombie element and replace it with a simple contagious medical disease, and the film wouldn't really change much. And there lies the problem with the film. It lacks tension. I like the avoidance of typical 'the zombies are coming' plot line, however, the film spends too much time in bleaktown without ever getting on the road to plotville, leaving the viewer waiting for things that never occure. And its such a shame, because add in some tension and a sense of dread and this film would be a very good one. But instead, we are given a sense of despair, of helplessness, supported by lots of darkened scenes of silent staring and a colourless palette.
It's also a shame that the film didn't reach better heights as Schwarzenegger is very good in this, despite having no action to fall back on. Arnie uses all his experience and comes through the film with a performance to be proud of.
